The Homefront Heroes Scholarship

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is the Homefront Heroes scholarship worth?

The exact dollar amount of the scholarship will vary depending on the degree program in which the recipient enrolls. The scholarship covers all tuition, required books, standard shipping costs for textbooks, and technology services fee costs for the duration of the program. A graduation fee at the conclusion of your program (currently $150) will be assessed.

Am I eligible to apply for this scholarship?

You are eligible to apply for this scholarship if you are a spouse or surviving spouse of an active-duty member of the US military (including the Coast Guard), a National Guard or reserves member, or a veteran who: (a) is a legal resident of the United States of America and San Diego County, California; (b) is at least eighteen (18) years of age or older as of the date of entry; and (c) has a high school diploma or GED.

When is the deadline to enter?

The entry period for all applications ends at 5:00 pm (Pacific Time) on November 6, 2016.

When will scholarship recipients be notified?

Recipients will be notified on or about December 1, 2016. Their names will be published via a press release from Ashford University.

How are the scholarship recipients chosen?

A total of five (5) recipients will be selected by a scholarship committee designated by Ashford University. The judges will score each essay based on the essay's relevance to the topic, its originality, and its overall impression. In the event of a tie, the tied applicant with the higher "overall impression" score, as determined by the judges, will be selected as the recipient. The judges’ decisions are final and binding in all respects.

How are the scholarship recipients notified?

Scholarship recipients will be notified by phone and mail on or about December 1, 2016. If a potential recipient is unreachable by phone after forty-eight hours, or if a notification is returned as undeliverable, that potential recipient may be disqualified and a new recipient will be chosen.

Can I enter more than once?

Only one entry per person, please. Applicants who submit multiple entries will be disqualified. Because recipients are chosen on the strength of their answers and not by luck, there is no statistical advantage to multiple entries.
